“SQ Sounds Alarm for Road Safety as Quebec’s Construction Holiday Nears: Last Year’s 38 Fatalities Cast a Long Shadow”

The Sûreté du Québec (SQ) has announced increased police presence across the province during the upcoming two-week construction holiday period.

Starting from July 17 to August 2, the SQ will intensify operations on roads, trails, and water bodies to enhance safety and prevent accidents.

Last year, Quebec’s construction holiday saw a concerning total of 38 fatalities, marking the highest toll in the past decade. Many of these deaths were attributed to collisions, including incidents involving off-road vehicles.

In response to these figures, the SQ emphasized the importance of collective responsibility in ensuring transportation safety. They underscored the crucial role that vigilance and adherence to safety regulations play in averting tragedies.

As approximately one-third of Quebecers take time off during this period, the road network experiences heightened traffic, while bodies of water and trails become more crowded.

Authorities are urging residents to prioritize safety by following regulations, such as wearing helmets when using ATVs and employing personal flotation devices while engaging in water activities.

The SQ emphasized the significance of safe travel practices and compliance with laws and regulations for all individuals utilizing transportation networks and partaking in recreational and tourism pursuits.
