The Abbotsford Police Department (AbbyPD) is asking the public for help in locating a man involved in the assault of a woman at Ellwood Park on Thursday morning.
According to AbbyPD, the incident occurred around 6:40 a.m. when a woman in her 70s was attacked in the park’s restroom by an unidentified man. Following the assault, the woman sought assistance as she sustained injuries that required medical treatment. She was later taken to the hospital for care and has since been discharged.
Despite efforts to locate the suspect in the park’s vicinity on Maclure Road, the individual remains at large. AbbyPD’s Forensic Identification Section has been brought in to assist with gathering evidence for the ongoing investigation.
While the case is still in its early stages, authorities believe the assault was a random act. To aid in identifying the suspect, AbbyPD is currently reviewing surveillance footage from the area and is reaching out to potential witnesses who were at Ellwood Park between 6 a.m. and 7:30 a.m. on July 16.
