Durham Police Make Arrest in 2019 Pickering Casino Security Guard Shooting Case
Durham Regional Police Service (DRPS) have announced a significant development in the case of the fatal shooting of a security guard at Pickering Casino Resort nearly three years ago. The incident, which occurred on October 9, 2023, left 24-year-old Michael Ferdinand fatally wounded.
Following the tragic event, a Canada-wide warrant was issued for a 17-year-old suspect wanted for second-degree murder in connection with the shooting. Two years later, in 2025, Crime Stoppers offered a $25,000 reward for information leading to the suspect’s arrest, highlighting the ongoing efforts to bring the perpetrator to justice.
In a recent update on July 20, 2026, authorities confirmed the arrest of a suspect linked to the Pickering Casino Resort homicide investigation outside of Ontario. Working in collaboration with law enforcement partners from other provinces, the individual, who was a minor at the time of the crime, has been taken into custody.
Although specific details regarding the arrest location and suspect’s identity have not been disclosed due to legal restrictions, DRPS emphasized their commitment to ensuring that all individuals involved in the case face the necessary legal consequences.
