Four individuals have been apprehended and a fifth remains at large following an attempted theft of power tools from a Markham store, according to a recent report by the York Regional Police (YRP).
The incident unfolded at a store near Fairburn Drive and Highway 7 on Sunday, July 19, around 7:45 p.m. YRP responded to a call from store security, who observed several suspects, known from previous thefts, loading power tools into shopping carts.
Upon leaving the store without payment, the suspects began transferring the stolen items into a waiting vehicle. As the suspects tried to flee, law enforcement arrived on the scene, resulting in a confrontation where the suspect vehicle made contact with a police car, leading to a foot chase with the suspects.
YRP successfully apprehended four of the suspects and recovered the stolen tools, but one individual remains at large with no description provided.
The arrested individuals include Mohit Sharma, 36, of no fixed address, Manpreet Singh, 30, of Brampton, Vishavjeet Singh, 22, of Mississauga, and Sukhinder Rakhra, 43, of Kitchener. They are facing multiple theft-related charges.
It is noted that at the time of their arrest, all four individuals were already on release orders for separate, unrelated offenses.
