The Northern Tornadoes Project (NTP) has confirmed a second tornado in Quebec during Tuesday’s powerful storm.
On Saturday, NTP said that an EF0 tornado touched down in Saint-Donat, in the Lanaudières region around 6:40 p.m. It produced winds of up to 115 km/h.
NTP says its drone and satellite image analysis showed that damages to trees near Lac Beauchamp.
The confirmation comes a day after NTP researchers said an EF1 tornado had swept through Harrington in the Laurentians just over an hour earlier, about 50 km southeast from Saint-Donat.
“Further analysis of high-resolution images of the tree damage could result in an upgrade to EF2,” NTP said in a blogpost.
The tornado in Harrington packed winds of up to 175 km/h snapping power poles and trees and damaging barns and homes in the area. No injuries were reported.
According to the NTP data, Canada has experienced 86 tornadoes, including five in Quebec, so far this year.
