A 34-year-old woman faces charges after a disturbing assault in downtown Vancouver that resulted in another woman being hospitalized, as reported by the Vancouver Police Department (VPD).
The incident took place at around 9:15 a.m. on Wednesday at the corner of Robson and Homer streets. Reportedly, a stranger approached the victim, choked her, bit her face and hand, and forcefully brought her to the ground without any prior interaction.
After the assault, the assailant fled the scene but was apprehended around one block away shortly after, as stated by the police.
Constable Megan Lui confirmed that there was no prior acquaintance between the suspect and victim, emphasizing that the attack was unprovoked. The motive behind the assault remains unclear at this point.
The victim was promptly taken to the hospital to receive treatment for her injuries.
The B.C. Prosecution Service announced charges against the accused on Thursday, which include assault causing bodily harm and assault by choking. The suspect is currently in custody awaiting further legal proceedings.
