Vancouver police seek public’s help in violent robbery of senior
The Vancouver Police Department (VPD) is seeking the public’s assistance in identifying a group of suspects involved in a violent robbery that targeted a senior citizen on Tuesday morning.
The incident occurred at approximately 9:15 a.m. near East Hastings Street and Jackson Avenue. According to reports, a 75-year-old man was walking in the area when he was accosted by a group of assailants who forcibly pushed him to the ground, repeatedly punched him in the face, and stole his personal belongings.
Cst. Megan Lui of the VPD described the incident as “very serious” and emphasized the vulnerability of the elderly victim. Surveillance footage capturing the attack has been released by investigators in the hopes of locating the perpetrators.
“This was a heinous attack on a senior who was simply out for a walk in his neighborhood,” Lui stated. “The suspects remain at large, and we urge the community to come forward with any information that could lead to their identification and apprehension.”
Following the robbery, the victim attempted to pursue the suspects in an effort to retrieve his stolen items. However, the suspects allegedly retaliated by slamming him into a wall before making their escape from the scene.
The victim sustained a head injury and bruising as a result of the assault and was subsequently treated at a local hospital before being discharged.
“We encourage anyone who witnessed the incident or possesses relevant information to contact authorities,” Lui urged. “It is crucial that we bring those responsible to justice and ensure accountability for their actions.”
