Michel Leblanc, the former president and CEO of the Chambre de commerce du Montréal métropolitain (CCMM), has officially announced his candidacy for the Quebec Liberal Party (PLQ) ahead of the upcoming election on October 5.
During a press conference, Liberal Party Leader Charles Milliard confirmed that Leblanc will be running in the Marguerite-Bourgeoys riding, situated in the southwest of Montreal. Describing Leblanc’s candidacy as having a strong focus on the economy, Milliard expressed confidence in Leblanc’s ability to steer Quebec’s economy in the right direction.
At a meeting in the LaSalle borough, attended by activists and Liberal officials, Milliard hinted at Leblanc possibly taking on a key economic role if the party wins power without revealing specific details.
Leblanc, emphasizing his economic expertise and commitment to solidarity, expressed his vision for a prosperous and fair economic future for Quebecers. Having served on the CCMM and criticized government policies previously, Leblanc is no stranger to public discourse and policy matters.
With a background in economics from the University of Montreal and experience in various organizations, Leblanc has garnered support from influential figures like former Finance Ministers Raymond Bachand and Monique Jérôme-Forget.
As the 84th confirmed PLQ candidate for the upcoming election, Leblanc’s entry into politics comes at a critical juncture, marked by economic challenges and uncertainties facing Quebec.
