Over the B.C. Day long weekend, the West Vancouver Police Department (WVPD) stepped in to halt a small vehicle carrying four large drums of vegetable oil precariously tied to its roof.
Described as “dangerously unsecured,” the massive containers were being transported by occupants heading to the B.C. Interior with an overloaded and improperly secured load. As a result, the vehicle was removed from the road, and a Notice and Order for non-compliance was issued by the WVPD.
Emphasizing the importance of vehicle safety, the WVPD highlighted that drivers must ensure their vehicles adhere to the Gross Vehicle Weight limits, that any cargo on the roof is securely fastened, and that safety regulations are strictly followed.
Despite this unusual incident, the WVPD revealed that they encountered a total of 205 violations over the weekend, including 63 for speeding. Additionally, two roadside prohibitions were issued, and a prohibited driver was arrested.
In a cautionary message, the WVPD urged drivers to obey speed limits, drive soberly, and guarantee that their vehicles and cargo meet safety standards to prevent similar incidents in the future.
