“IIO Calls for Eyewitness Accounts of Controversial SkyTrain Arrest in New Westminster”

The Independent Investigations Office of BC (IIO) is looking for witnesses related to an incident that occurred on a SkyTrain in New Westminster on July 31.

On that night, Metro Vancouver Transit Police (MVTP) responded to a disturbance aboard an eastbound SkyTrain. The situation involved a man who was reportedly causing trouble and believed to be carrying a weapon.

After receiving the complaint, MVTP officers boarded the train, removed the man, and took him into custody. He was then brought to the New Westminster Police Department’s holding cells.

Around 1:30 a.m., BC Emergency Health Services were called to evaluate the man, who was later taken to the hospital for further assessment and treatment.

Following the incident, the IIO was notified and has initiated an investigation to understand the circumstances of the arrest.

The IIO urges anyone who witnessed the event or possesses pertinent information to reach out as they continue their inquiry.
