A new proposal from Québec solidaire (QS) aims to address homelessness by introducing a “superminister” if the party gains power. Ruba Ghazal, the spokesperson for the left-wing party, unveiled this initiative during a press event at Montreal’s PAS de la rue organization. This designated role is intended to streamline government efforts in tackling homelessness, ensuring a more coordinated approach, Ghazal emphasized. Government statistics reveal that there are currently 12,000 individuals experiencing homelessness in Quebec, marking a 20% increase since 2022. Guillaume Cliche-Rivard, QS’s spokesperson for health and social services, criticized the Coalition Avenir Québec (CAQ) government during the conference, alleging that their actions have been insufficient and belated in addressing this pressing issue.
