Montreal Tourism Booms: Record Summer Expected
Tourisme Montréal is anticipating a record-breaking summer season, with a surge in tourism from both the United States and other countries. This positive trend comes after a slight decline last year due to concerns over the trade war. The city has seen a significant increase in American visitors, a five per cent rise in Canadian tourists, and an influx of international travelers.
Hotel bookings have soared by 12 per cent, leading to an impressive 82 per cent occupancy rate between May and July. Searches for accommodations in Montreal on Google have also spiked, indicating a strong interest in visiting the city.
Yves Lalumière, the president and CEO of Tourisme Montréal, expressed excitement over the city’s growth as a tourist destination. In 2025, Montreal welcomed 11.9 million tourists who spent $5.8 billion in the city, showcasing its appeal on a global scale.
The summer has been marked by record attendance at major festivals like the Festival International de Jazz de Montréal, which saw its highest turnout ever. Additionally, popular events such as Osheaga and Just for Laughs experienced significant success, drawing in crowds from near and far.
Business conventions have also contributed to the city’s tourism boom, with a notable increase in international visitors attending events in July. Looking ahead, Tourisme Montréal is optimistic about the continued strength of tourism, with upcoming events like the UCI Road World Championships expected to attract even more visitors.
As August and September approach, Montreal is poised for a historic year in tourism, with optimism running high for continued growth and success in the industry.
