An Ontario jeweller, accused of being part of a massive money laundering scheme linked to a criminal network allegedly led by former Olympian Ryan Wedding, has agreed to be extradited to the United States. Rolan Sokolovski, a jeweller and former professional poker player, has consented to extradition proceedings in a recent court hearing. However, his lawyer emphasized that this does not imply guilt or an admission of the accusations’ validity.
Scott Fenton, Sokolovski’s legal representative, asserts that his client is innocent and intends to contest the charges brought against him in the California courts. Sokolovski was one of eight Canadians apprehended last year in connection with a sophisticated U.S. probe into Wedding’s activities.
Allegations suggest Sokolovski played a crucial role in the global drug trafficking network by using his jewelry business to launder money and acquire luxury items for Wedding, a former Team Canada snowboarder who was on the FBI’s most wanted list until his recent arrest.
U.S. authorities claim that Sokolovski acted as the primary financial institution for the drug ring and still has access to substantial amounts of cryptocurrency and physical assets. Despite a previous attempt to secure bail, an Ontario judge denied Sokolovski’s request in February.
Wedding, the alleged mastermind behind the operation, was apprehended in Mexico and extradited to the U.S. to face a multitude of charges. Among the accusations is his alleged involvement in orchestrating several murders, including that of a potential witness in a narcotics case slated for 2024.
