Quebecers reportedly bought more books online on Wednesday, during the “August 12, I buy a Quebec book” day, than during the previous year.
The Quebec independent booksellers cooperative Les Libraires has thus seen a 26 per cent increase in sales on its website.
This new record surpasses the one set in 2025, which in turn exceeded the pandemic editions of 2020 and 2021.
Among the works that have generated the most enthusiasm, at the top of the list is the novel “Traumathys” by David Goudreault, which is a regular on the August 12th list.
Thélyson Orélien, with “C’était ça ou mourir”, managed to climb to second place for her first novel, just ahead of Geneviève Janelle and her book “Exploser tout bas” in the cooperative’s online rankings.
In fourth position, we find “Le mur” by Christian Guay-Poliquin, ahead of “Les ravisseuses” by Charles Dionne and “Haute saison”, written by a collective of authors.
