41-year-old man stabbed in Montreal’s Mercier–Hochelaga-Maisonneuve

A 41-year-old man was hospitalized with stabbing wounds after a conflict allegedly escalated in Montreal’s Mercier–Hochelaga-Maisonneuve borough overnight Friday.

Montreal police (SPVM) received a 911 call around 1:30 a.m. reporting a man with injuries, near Sainte-Catherine Street E. and William-David Avenue.

Upon arrival, officers found the 41-year-old man with injuries to his upper body.

According to initial reports, a conflict escalated between the victim and a suspect just before before the stabbing, said SPVM spokesperson Caroline Chèvrefils.

The suspect fled the scene before police arrived, she added. No arrests have been made.

Investigators set up a security perimeter was set up to gather evidence at the scene and also spoke to several witnesses.

The investigation is ongoing.
