Cott Black Cherry Cola cans go extinct at Montreal’s Schwartz’s, Trump’s tariffs to blame

As Trump’s tariff war with Canada continues, another product appears to have fallen victim to the trade dispute.

Cherry cola fans will have to say goodbye to the cans of Cott Black Cherry Cola served at Montreal’s iconic Schwartz’s Deli, as a 50 per cent U.S. tariff on aluminum makes it impossible for the restaurant to replenish its supply.

The Montreal deli confirmed to CityNews that its supply of canned cherry cola ran dry around March and can no longer be replaced. Schwartz’s went through roughly 100 cases of the cherry-flavoured soda every week.

Fortunately for fans, the beverage is still available in two-litre bottles. However, the deli says the cans were by far its biggest seller.

Schwartz’s has since replaced Cott’s Cherry Cola with a more local option: Fleischer Original Black Cherry, made by Fleischer Beverage Company in Brossard.

According to Schwartz’s, customers can barely taste the difference.
