Emergency crews rescued two teenagers who got stuck in the Credit River on Saturday following intense rain.
Peel Regional Police (PRP) say two 18-year-old males entered the river on foot at approximately 6:43 p.m., without a boat or personal flotation devices.
“Following heavy rainfall, rising water levels left the two individuals stranded on a small area of land within the river,” a PRP spokesperson wrote in a statement to CityNews.
“The males contacted police after realizing they were unable to safely return to shore,” authorities added.
Members of the PRP Marine Unit and several uniformed officers attended the scene along with paramedics and the fire department.
“The two males were safely assisted from the area and declined medical attention,” police added. “Officers subsequently transported them to their residence to ensure they returned home safely.”
