Teresa Wat has made the decision to leave the B.C. Conservatives and will now represent herself as an Independent member, expressing her reasons for this shift as a matter of principle.
Wat has voiced her disappointment in the party’s leader, Kerry-Lynne Findlay, for failing to address what she describes as “serious and baseless accusations” made against her. These allegations, questioning her loyalty to Canada, were particularly upsetting and unacceptable to Wat.
This recent departure marks the third MLA to step away from the official opposition within a short span of time, following the exits of Rosalyn Bird, Ian Paton, and Peter Milobar.
In her announcement regarding her departure, Wat references the widely circulated comments attributed to Findlay, where she was labeled as “CCP,” in reference to the Chinese Communist Party. Despite assurances of an apology from Findlay, none has been issued, leading Wat to conclude that she cannot align herself with a leader who has cast doubt on her allegiance.
