A man has been handed a three-year sentence in connection with a Vancouver murder case that began with the discovery of human remains in a fire over three years ago, as confirmed by Vancouver police.
The incident unfolded on January 3, 2023, when Vancouver Fire Rescue Services responded to reports of a suspicious outdoor fire near Powell Street and Raymur Avenue. Upon dousing the flames, authorities found human remains, later identified as those of 34-year-old Jeff Jeanty.
Dustin Gastl, 43, pleaded guilty to indecent treatment of human remains and has now been sentenced to three years in custody. Gastl was already serving time for another offense, and this new sentence will run consecutively to his existing imprisonment term.
