A 49-year-old man from Mississauga has been hit with nearly 40 charges after a widespread investigation into organized retail theft.
Peel Region police launched the investigation in April, targeting a repeat offender suspected of being behind 38 theft incidents involving clothing and accessories from various retail stores across multiple regions including Peel, Halton, Durham, Hamilton, York, and Niagara.
Anthony Orlando Monteith was taken into custody on June 19 and now faces 24 counts of theft under $5,000 and 14 counts of possession of stolen property.
After his arrest, authorities conducted searches at homes in Mississauga and Welland, where they recovered stolen goods valued at $35,000, including clothing, cosmetics, and personal accessories.
“Police are continuing to look into other possible offenses involving Monteith and expect additional charges to follow,” stated a police release.
