Montreal authorities are currently looking into a suspected arson incident that took place in the early hours of Saturday in the bustling Villeray neighborhood.
Reports started flooding in around 3:50 a.m. about a fire engulfing a mixed commercial and residential building located on Saint-Hubert Street, close to Faillon Street.
Upon arrival, law enforcement discovered that Montreal firefighters were already at the scene, diligently working to extinguish the flames.
Initial findings suggest that an individual allegedly broke into a beauty salon by smashing a window and then proceeded to ignite a fire before swiftly fleeing the vicinity.
Evidence of incendiary material was recovered at the site, adding weight to the suspicion of arson.
The case has now been handed over to the specialized arson and anti-crime unit within the Montreal police department. Investigators are expected to conduct a thorough examination of the fire and piece together the sequence of events.
As a precautionary measure, residents were evacuated during the firefighting operation, ensuring everyone’s safety.
Fortunately, no injuries were reported in connection with the incident, according to law enforcement officials.
