An altercation between acquaintances took a violent turn on Sunday evening in Montreal’s Villeray–Saint-Michel–Parc-Extension area, resulting in a 49-year-old man sustaining injuries from a sharp object.
Montreal police responded to a call at approximately 7:30 p.m. reporting a wounded individual near the junction of Jean-Talon Street East and Pie-IX Boulevard. Upon arrival, law enforcement discovered the victim conscious but injured in the lower body.
The injured man was promptly transported to the hospital for medical attention. Fortunately, his wounds were deemed non-life-threatening by Caroline Chèvrefils, a spokesperson for the Montreal police.
Preliminary reports suggest that the altercation originated from a dispute between the victim and another individual before escalating into a violent incident. Authorities have confirmed that the two parties were familiar with each other.
As of now, no arrests have been made in connection with the incident.
In response to the situation, a security perimeter was set up around the area to allow investigators and forensic specialists to comb through the scene for potential evidence. Additionally, a police K9 unit was deployed to aid in the search for any relevant clues.
Witnesses have been interviewed by investigators, who are also planning to review surveillance footage from nearby cameras to piece together the sequence of events.
The investigation is currently ongoing.
