Toronto is bracing for a rainy and unsettled end to August as Environment Canada issues a weather alert. Showers and thunderstorms are expected to bring 30 to 50 millimetres of rain by Monday evening, with some areas possibly receiving more.
The special weather statement covers Toronto, Halton-Peel, Vaughan-Richmond Hill-Markham, and Pickering-Oshawa-Southern Durham as of Monday morning. Some areas have already received up to 25 millimetres of rain, with more expected in the afternoon, especially in storm-affected regions.
While the risk of severe weather is low, localized flooding is a concern, especially in low-lying areas and on busy commuter routes. Temperatures will reach a high of 23°C, but high humidity will make it feel closer to 30°C.
Monday night will see continued rain and mild temperatures around 19°C. Tuesday will start with clouds and some sunshine before the possibility of more showers and thunderstorms in the evening, with a high of 28°C and a humidex near 36.
Wednesday and Thursday will also be cloudy with chances of rain and thunderstorms, maintaining high humidity levels. The normal late-August temperatures for Toronto are a high of 23°C and a low of 14°C.
