A man from Toronto has been apprehended and charged by authorities after an alarming incident at a Scarborough bus stop where he wielded a knife near a stranger’s neck while unleashing anti-Chinese insults. The unsettling encounter took place on a Monday afternoon, prompting a swift response from Toronto police.
The unsettling incident unfolded near the intersection of Warden Avenue and Ellesmere Road on August 31, with concerned citizens alerting officials about a man brandishing a knife.
According to investigators, the victim was minding their own business at the bus stop when the assailant menacingly brandished a sharp object, holding it dangerously close to the victim’s neck. Startled, the victim stepped back as the suspect hurled derogatory anti-Chinese remarks before trying to make a quick getaway.
Law enforcement swiftly tracked down the suspect in the vicinity and placed him under arrest.
Nickolaos Galanis, a 62-year-old resident of Toronto, faces charges for an offense driven by hatred, specifically assault with a weapon. His court appearance was set for September 1.
