Prospective travelers browsing Toronto Pearson Airport’s social media account on Friday were greeted with a surprising sight – a series of advertisements championing a new cryptocurrency coin took over the platform.
These ads temporarily displaced the usual updates on airport activities and flight information, causing confusion among visitors.
Upon inquiry from CityNews, the Greater Toronto Airport Authority (GTAA) confirmed the situation, clarifying that the issue was confined to the airport’s X account and had no bearing on operational or security aspects.
In a statement, the GTAA reassured the public, stating, “Toronto Pearson has successfully resolved the matter concerning our X account, with no disruption to airport operations, passenger services, security, or systems.”
Although the airport’s tweets were reinstated, the profile’s header image remained absent for several hours.
The GTAA assured that a thorough investigation into the incident is underway and presently, there is no evidence of broader repercussions.
