The race for the next MLA of Abbotsford-Mission has been finalized as candidates gear up for the upcoming byelection.
Representing the B.C. NDP is Pam Alexis, a familiar face who previously held the position after winning in 2020. Alexis brings a wealth of experience, having served as B.C.’s minister of agriculture and food, as well as having a background in municipal leadership within Mission.
Meanwhile, the Conservative Party of B.C. has chosen Kerry-Lynne Findlay, the party leader, as their candidate. Findlay, a former Member of Parliament for various B.C. ridings, made history as the first woman to hold the chief Opposition whip position for the federal Conservatives.
Notably, the provincial Conservatives have faced internal challenges under Findlay’s leadership, with nine MLAs leaving the party to either become Independents or join other political factions.
Additionally, the B.C. Greens have nominated Stephen Fowler, a dedicated teacher at Rick Hansen Secondary School in Abbotsford with past electoral experience at both provincial and federal levels. Fowler’s platform focuses on key issues such as affordable social housing, improved public transit, and enhanced community health services.
Lakhwinder Jhaj, representing CentreBC, brings a unique perspective to the race with a history of running under different party banners. Jhaj’s emphasis on community service and collaboration aligns with CentreBC’s ethos of bridging political divides to serve all British Columbians.
Lastly, Libertarian candidate Jeff Monds enters the fray, having contested in various federal and provincial elections, including the recent North Vancouver-Capilano byelection.
