A fire in Surrey’s Whalley neighborhood on Sunday has left 16 people displaced, according to the Surrey Fire Service.
Assistant Fire Chief Mike McNamara reported that heavy smoke and flames were seen coming from a home on 125B Street near 104 Avenue when crews arrived. Thankfully, all 16 residents were confirmed to be out of the house, though initially five of them were unaccounted for. Firefighters were able to start fighting the flames once everyone was safely evacuated.
The fire caused the home’s clay roof to collapse due to water damage. The exact cause of the blaze is currently being investigated.
