According to Jim Lee, a platoon chief at Oshawa Fire Services, emergency services were alerted to the fire shortly before 4 a.m. by paramedics who detected smoke in the vicinity. Following the trail of smoke, they discovered that the fire had originated at the McIntosh-Anderson-Kellam Funeral Home on King Street East, near the Oshawa courthouse. Upon arrival, firefighters found the building already ablaze.
The intense fire resulted in the complete destruction of the funeral home, prompting the authorities to demolish the structure for safety reasons.
