York Regional Police have announced the successful conclusion of a lengthy investigation targeting a violent break-and-enter ring that specifically focused on stealing luxury vehicles. The operation, named Project Howler, resulted in the apprehension of four young individuals from Toronto and the recovery of seven stolen cars.
The investigation was prompted by a series of incidents where intruders broke into homes to steal keys for high-end vehicles. Through Project Howler, authorities uncovered a group of teenagers believed to be behind over 50 residential break-ins and car thefts spanning across York Region and neighboring areas. Shockingly, in some instances, the suspects allegedly used weapons, including firearms, during confrontations with homeowners.
In a recent development on August 26, police surveillance led to the tracking of a group of suspects traveling in a stolen vehicle from Richmond Hill. Upon arrival at Thorncliffe Park Drive and Overlea Boulevard in Toronto, officers swiftly intervened in a coordinated operation. Following a brief chase on foot, three youths were apprehended, and the police successfully recovered seven stolen vehicles associated with the group.
Subsequently, on August 28, a fourth youth was charged as investigators continued to examine evidence linked to the broader theft network. The individuals involved have not been named due to regulations under the Youth Criminal Justice Act (YCJA).
York Regional Police emphasized that Project Howler is an ongoing initiative, and they urge anyone with relevant information to reach out to YRP investigators for assistance.
