A former Montreal priest, Brian Boucher, will remain in custody until his next court appearance in November, after being accused of possessing and viewing child pornography.
Boucher’s lawyer informed a judge on Tuesday that he had chosen to waive his right to a bail hearing.
BACKGROUND: Boucher, a 64-year-old man, had previously been convicted in 2019 for sexually assaulting two boys. He was sentenced to eight years in prison, with incidents occurring between 1995 and 1999 at one church and between 2008 and 2011 at another.
Previously scheduled for statutory release in 2024, Boucher was residing in an approved facility in the community before his recent arrest on new charges.
The case is set to reconvene on Nov. 23, adding to Boucher’s troubled history as a former priest in Montreal, where he served at multiple churches between 1985 and 2015 before being officially removed from his priestly duties in 2020.
