The Vancouver Fringe Festival is set to kick off this Thursday, offering a diverse array of entertainment including theatre, comedy, dance, drag, and music through 83 shows across 18 venues.
Duncan Watts-Grant, the festival’s executive director, unveiled that this year’s lineup will highlight 78 local artists and feature a total of 650 performances over 11 days, promising a packed schedule for attendees to enjoy.
In an unconventional approach, Watts-Grant revealed that the festival’s acts are chosen randomly, adding an element of surprise and unpredictability for both the organizers and the audience.
One of the eagerly anticipated plays, TGIF (short for ‘The Guys I F’d’), shares Centenie Narusis’ colorful dating experiences, offering a wild and humorous glimpse into her quest for true love. The play will have six performances at the Waterfront Theatre on Granville Island.
Another play, Love (Manipulated), delves into personal experiences, with writer and director Gordon Woolvett using the production as a creative outlet to reflect on his own life journey amidst personal challenges.
Actress Victoria Souter described the experience of working on Love (Manipulated) as a mix of fun and emotional depth, highlighting the unique creative atmosphere of the Fringe Festival.
