A woman in Toronto’s west end was left seriously injured in a hit-and-run incident, with a 52-year-old man now facing multiple charges in connection to the case.
According to Toronto police, the incident occurred on Aug. 26 when a 34-year-old woman was crossing Lansdowne Avenue at Brandon Avenue and was struck by a southbound vehicle around 8:30 p.m. The vehicle, reportedly speeding, fled the scene, leaving the woman with severe injuries that required hospitalization.
After a two-day search, authorities located the vehicle, identified as a white five-door hatchback, but the driver was still at large. However, on Sept. 11, the driver voluntarily surrendered to the police.
The accused, Joao Cabral of Toronto, has been charged with several offenses including failing to stop at the scene of an accident causing bodily harm, obstructing justice, careless driving causing bodily harm or death, and driving without a license.
