Peel Regional Police have charged a 25-year-old man, Muhammad Raahim, for allegedly selling fake car insurance policies in the Greater Toronto Area. Raahim is accused of knowingly distributing fabricated insurance documents to victims, with police linking him to 15 reported incidents resulting in over $10,000 in losses.
Investigations revealed that Raahim, a former licensed insurance seller who worked for various brokerages, continued selling policies without proper authorization or license. Victims were deceived by receiving seemingly legitimate insurance paperwork, unaware that they were not actually covered.
On August 26, Raahim was arrested and now faces a charge of defrauding the public. Following his release with conditions, he awaits his court appearance.
Authorities caution the public to be vigilant when purchasing car insurance, advising individuals to verify the legitimacy of insurance providers, brokers, and agents before making payments or trusting any coverage documents.
