After months of negotiations, Coast Mountain Bus Company has announced a tentative contract agreement with Metro Vancouver transit operators. The company revealed that a deal was reached with Unifor Locals 111 and 2200, representing bus drivers, SeaBus employees, and other skilled workers, with the assistance of a mediator.
While specific terms of the agreement have not been disclosed, Coast Mountain Bus Company stated that it will undergo a ratification process before being finalized. The agreement is said to focus on aspects related to recovery and running time, aligning with the framework established with other public sector unions.
Negotiations, which commenced in February, faced hurdles along the way, leading to job actions such as a ban on wearing uniforms and the refusal to forgo break times when bus routes were behind schedule. In response, union members voted overwhelmingly in favor of strike action in May, but both parties returned to the negotiation table on Saturday to broker a potential resolution.
