The Durham Regional Police Service is seeking suspects in connection with a recent arson incident that caused damage to a prominent funeral home in Oshawa.
In the early hours of September 7, emergency responders were alerted to a fire at the McIntosh-Anderson-Kellam Funeral Home on King Street East. Firefighters arrived to find flames engulfing the building, prompting a swift response to contain the blaze. Police officers assisted in managing traffic while the Oshawa Fire Services worked to bring the fire under control.
Following investigations, authorities confirmed that the fire was deliberately set, leading to significant interior damage at the funeral home. Fortunately, no injuries were reported in the incident. The long-standing establishment, which has served the Oshawa community for many years, faced disruptions to its scheduled services due to the fire, prompting a reassessment of security protocols on the premises.
Oshawa Fire Services Platoon Chief Jim Lee described the situation as a “total loss” during a statement last week. The police are actively seeking to identify the culprits behind the arson and are appealing to the public for any relevant information that could aid in the investigation.
