A tragic incident in North York has left a community grieving, as a 16-year-old boy has been taken into custody on a first-degree murder charge following the death of a 17-year-old teen earlier this week.
The unfortunate event unfolded on Monday afternoon, when Toronto police responded to reports of a shooting at the intersection of Jane Street and Finch Avenue West. The victim, a teenage boy, was rushed to the hospital but sadly succumbed to his injuries.
The victim has been identified as 17-year-old Cashie Auguste, a resident of Toronto, whose life was cut short in this senseless act of violence.
Authorities provided an update on Thursday, announcing the arrest of the 16-year-old suspect, who is facing charges of first-degree murder and violating a probation order. Due to legal restrictions under the Youth Criminal Justice Act (YCJA), the suspect’s identity remains confidential.
The suspect is set to appear in court later today as the investigation continues.
Community members gathered for a vigil on Tuesday to honor Cashie Auguste, where his father, Lucas Auguste, shared loving memories of his son as a kind-hearted and respectful individual.
Cashie was a student at C.W. Jefferys Collegiate Institute in North York, near the site of the tragic incident that claimed his life.
