Next Monday, the blue-collar workers employed at Parc Jean-Drapeau are set to go on strike for a day. The Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE), to which they belong, announced this on Thursday. This group consists of 299 blue-collar workers who are part of CUPE, similar to their counterparts at the City of Montreal who are planning a week-long strike starting Tuesday. Recently, the workers at Parc Jean-Drapeau gathered to vote on their employer’s proposal, which they rejected by an overwhelming majority of 95.9%.
In a significant development, back in mid-August, these workers secured a strike mandate that could potentially escalate to a full-scale, indefinite strike. The upcoming strike on Monday will mark their first official day of strike action.
