Jason Martin recently visited the newly opened Paws for Hope Community Hub with his beloved pet, Rue, for some much-needed treatment. Martin, who is on disability and struggles financially, expressed gratitude for the accessible services provided at the hub, which have been a significant help to him and Rue.
The hub, established by the animal foundation, aims to support pet owners, particularly those with low incomes, by offering a range of services to prevent the surrender of pets due to financial constraints. Paws for Hope’s executive director, Kathy Powelson, explained that the hub provides essential services such as pet pantries, wellness clinics, grooming, and temporary foster care facilities.
Open on select days each week, the hub not only caters to the needs of pets but also serves as a safety net for pet owners facing difficult situations. By offering support for pets, Paws for Hope is also ensuring the well-being of their owners, as highlighted by Powelson.
The services at the hub, including the wellness clinic led by Dr. Emilia Wong Gordon, are free for individuals meeting the low-income criteria. Dr. Gordon expressed her enthusiasm for the new facility and emphasized the importance of providing assistance to those in need, both pets and their owners.
Rue, Martin’s furry companion, received attentive care at the clinic, where she received necessary vaccinations and preventive medications. Martin praised the clinic staff for their friendly and accommodating approach, which made Rue’s experience a positive one.
