Eight former B.C. Conservative lawmakers are making a bold move by joining the CentreBC party, with Peter Milobar stepping in as the new party leader. This decision will propel CentreBC to become the third-largest party in the provincial legislature.
Initially planning to establish their own party, Milobar and six fellow Conservative defectors have opted to unite under the CentreBC banner. The group will also welcome Eleanor Sturko, who was ousted from the Conservative caucus the previous year.
In a strategic move, Mike Bernier is gracefully stepping down as the leader of CentreBC to pave the way for Milobar, whose departure from the Conservative caucus in August sparked a chain of resignations.
The momentum continued as three more legislators left the Conservative caucus just before CentreBC’s official announcement, resulting in a total of 12 defections since Kerry Lynne-Findlay assumed leadership.
Milobar openly criticizes the Conservatives, labeling them a “clown college.” CentreBC is gearing up to field candidates in all 93 ridings in anticipation of an upcoming early election.
