The World Cycling Championships in Montreal are in full swing, with cyclists gearing up for the fourth day of thrilling competition.
Here are the anticipated street closures for this exciting event:
The roads encircling the iconic Mount Royal circuit will remain closed until the conclusion of the World Cycling Championships next Sunday.
Athletes are set to commence their training sessions for the road race along the renowned Mount Royal circuit, starting at approximately 6 a.m. The race will kick off and culminate at the primary event hub situated at the base of Mount Royal on Park Avenue, as indicated on the interactive Montreal obstruction map.
The initial races on this challenging course are scheduled for Thursday, prompting street closures from Wednesday onwards due to the Défi Montréal 2026 fundraiser. This charitable event aims to support the development of future cycling talents and will run from noon to 6 p.m.
For this specific route, Camillien-Houde Way and Remembrance Road will be inaccessible, leading cyclists along Côte-des-Neiges Road towards Maréchal Avenue before heading east onto Decelles Avenue. The cyclists’ journey will then take them through the Notre-Dame-des-Neiges cemetery via Chemin de la Tour and Chemin de Polytechnique before making a left turn onto Chemin de la Rampe.
Continuing along Édouard-Montpetit Boulevard towards Vincent-D’Indy Avenue, the cyclists will then veer left onto Côte-Sainte-Catherine Road, followed by Pagnuelo Avenue and Mont-Royal Boulevard. The route will conclude with a stretch along Mont-Royal Avenue West, turning right onto Saint-Urbain Street, with only two final right turns remaining on Pine Avenue West before reaching the finish line on Park Avenue.
On Thursday, athletes are expected to complete 10 laps of this challenging circuit, covering a total distance of 134 kilometres. Participants of the Défi Montréal 2026 fundraiser will have the flexibility to stop at their discretion.
Closure of all streets encompassing this route will be in effect until the conclusion of the World Cycling Championships on Sunday.
Furthermore, Mont-Royal Avenue East and Duluth Avenue East will be blocked between Saint-Laurent Boulevard and Saint-Hubert Street. A small section of Prince-Arthur Street East, from Laval Avenue to Saint-Laurent Boulevard, will also be temporarily closed to traffic.
