A bus driver in his 40s experienced a medical emergency, causing an STM bus to collide with three vehicles and hit two restaurant patios in Montreal’s Notre-Dame-de-Grâce neighborhood on Wednesday afternoon. According to SPVM spokesperson Jean-Pierre Brabant, the incident occurred around 2:45 p.m. on Monkland Avenue between Harvard and Oxford avenues. Despite the chaos, only minor injuries were reported for the bus driver and two individuals who were taken to the hospital.
Approximately 20 passengers were on the bus during the crash, which Brabant described as a “miracle” since no pedestrians were harmed, considering the bustling presence near the patios and street. The collision resulted in damage to two restaurant patios and the involved vehicles, requiring them to be towed away from the scene. Fortunately, Monkland Avenue was reopened in both directions by 4:40 p.m., with no lingering road closures tied to the incident.
As investigations continue, authorities are piecing together the events leading up to the unusual crash.
