In a dramatic rescue operation on Friday morning, Montreal police saved a homeless man who had sought shelter in a building slated for demolition in the Rosemont–La Petite-Patrie area. The 44-year-old man had broken into the abandoned Bingo Masson building and refused to vacate the premises as construction workers prepared to tear it down at the intersection of Masson and Lafond streets.
Upon spotting the man inside the building, officials swiftly deployed a drone to pinpoint his exact location. The Montreal Fire Department joined forces to ensure the safe evacuation of the man and secure the area.
After a tense three-hour operation, the man was safely removed from the building around 1:30 p.m. Fortunately, there were no injuries reported, but as a precaution, the man was taken to the hospital for assessment.
As of now, no arrests have been made, and the investigation is ongoing to determine the circumstances leading up to the man’s desperate refuge in the soon-to-be-demolished structure.
