A man has been apprehended after causing havoc with bear spray in multiple incidents, one of which involved a confrontation with police during his arrest on Thursday.
The suspect, identified as Jonathan Laberge-Labrecque, 42, reportedly stole bear spray from a vehicle in the Kits Point neighborhood near Ogden Avenue and Cypress Street. When confronted by the vehicle owner, Laberge-Labrecque discharged the bear spray and walked away.
Shortly after, another victim was sprayed by Laberge-Labrecque when they confronted him near their work vehicle. In a disturbing turn of events, Laberge-Labrecque not only sprayed the victim but also grabbed and tossed their cellphone.
Following this, Laberge-Labrecque allegedly approached a woman, brandishing the bear spray and demanding transportation in her vehicle.
Upon the arrival of Vancouver Police Department (VPD) officers, the suspect resisted arrest, using the bear spray against them and disregarding their commands. Despite the challenges, the officers successfully detained Laberge-Labrecque.
Laberge-Labrecque is facing charges related to these incidents and is currently in custody awaiting a bail hearing.
