LNG Canada to Double Capacity with Kitimat Terminal Expansion
LNG Canada has officially announced its plans to move forward with the Phase 2 expansion project at its liquefied natural gas export terminal in Kitimat, British Columbia. This expansion will see LNG Canada’s capacity increase to 28 million tonnes per year, doubling its current output.
This significant development is part of the initial projects referred to Ottawa’s major projects office last year, highlighting the country’s commitment to the energy sector. CEO Chris Cooper emphasized that the expansion project will not only generate thousands of jobs but also solidify Canada’s standing as a reliable energy partner on the global stage.
The first phase of the project, which commenced operations last year, has already begun shipping liquefied natural gas. LNG Canada, a collaboration between Shell and leading companies such as Malaysia’s Petronas, PetroChina, Mitsubishi Corp. of Japan, and KOGAS of South Korea, is at the forefront of bolstering Canada’s energy industry.
