More than one million Quebecers have already voted ahead of the upcoming election day on Oct. 5, as early voting options prove popular across the province.
Recent data from Elections Quebec revealed that a significant 23.59 percent of eligible voters, totaling around 1.5 million people, have participated in advance polling. This figure encompasses voting over the past couple of days, including ballots cast in various locations such as college campuses, private seniors’ homes, and long-term care facilities.
Louis-Hébert, located in the Capitale-Nationale region, boasted the highest early voter turnout among Quebec’s electoral districts, with 38.38 percent of voters taking advantage of the opportunity. Following closely behind was Vanier-Les Rivières in Quebec City, with a turnout of 34.40 percent.
Conversely, Ungava, Quebec’s largest and northernmost electoral district, experienced the lowest advance voting rate at 8.31 percent.
The advance voting period kicked off at select polling stations on Sunday, with earlier voting held at the offices of returning officers on Friday and Saturday. Additionally, students at designated institutions had the chance to cast their votes on campus last Friday.
