With the British Columbia election on the horizon, the main political parties are gearing up to fill all 93 ridings, while smaller parties are facing challenges as the Oct. 3 nomination deadline looms.
As of Sept. 30, Elections BC has listed 43 official candidates for the B.C. New Democrats and 32 for the Conservatives. However, both parties claim to have more candidates than officially listed. In contrast, smaller parties are struggling to attract candidates, with CentreBC and OneBC having only one official candidate each, and the Greens with seven registered candidates.
Although the official numbers are low for the smaller parties, they assert that their candidate count is higher. CentreBC and OneBC are new players in this election, emerging after the B.C. Conservative Party split following the previous election in 2024.
