Authorities have apprehended a young individual from Pickering on allegations of making threats to carry out a school shooting and creating firearm components using a 3D printer.
The Durham police initiated an investigation following reports from various sources, including international law enforcement partners. These sources highlighted that a male youth had posted concerning remarks online regarding intentions of conducting a school shooting and producing firearms through 3D printing technology.
Subsequently, law enforcement officials conducted a search at a residence in Pickering the following day, seizing a 3D printer, an unfinished polymer lower receiver for an Urutau (a printable semi-automatic firearm), and several electronic devices.
A 16-year-old male has been formally charged with making threats and manufacturing firearm parts. He has been detained pending a bail hearing.
