Montreal Murder Suspect Arrested in Mexico; Extradition Underway
Montreal police have confirmed the arrest of 22-year-old Gabriel Lavoie in Playa del Carmen, Mexico, in connection with a 2025 murder case. Lavoie, wanted for murder, is currently in custody as extradition procedures begin.
The arrest is linked to the tragic death of a 34-year-old man in the Mercier–Hochelaga-Maisonneuve area on March 14, 2025. Police responded to a distress call near Ontario and Saint-Germain streets, where the victim, who had sustained severe lower-body injuries from a sharp object, later succumbed to his wounds in the hospital.
Lavoie’s apprehension in Mexico marks the third arrest in this case, following the previous detentions of Dave Lambert-Chouinard and Valdano Saint-Hillien in Montreal shortly after the incident. Both individuals are presently facing manslaughter charges.
The successful arrest of Lavoie was made possible through collaborative efforts involving Mexican authorities, the RCMP, and Interpol.
