A medical evacuation flight tragically vanished off the U.S. East Coast while en route from Bermuda to Boston, leading to the presumed loss of all six individuals on board. The Ontario-based company operating the aircraft, Hamilton’s Latitude Air Ambulance, confirmed that the search-and-rescue operation has been halted, shifting to recovery efforts for the missing Heartbeat 104 Medevac.
The United States Coast Guard made the difficult decision to transition from rescue to recovery after scouring the waters near Nantucket, Massachusetts, where the plane disappeared early Saturday morning. The Gulfstream G100 carried four crew members from Latitude, a patient, and a family escort.
Reports suggest that the aircraft may have encountered challenges as it approached the coast, with air traffic audio indicating possible electrical problems and the pilot possibly navigating blind amidst an approaching storm. The crew members were on a mission to provide care during critical moments when the tragic incident occurred.
Latitude Air Ambulance expressed deep sorrow over the loss of their crew and passengers, emphasizing their dedication to assisting people during challenging times. The company’s focus now lies on supporting the affected families and cooperating with investigative bodies such as the U.S. National Transportation Safety Board and the Transportation Safety Board of Canada.
As authorities continue their work to determine the cause of the disappearance, no speculations have been made regarding the incident, with Latitude committing to full cooperation with the ongoing investigation.
