Québec solidaire is exploring the possibility of a recount in the tight election race for Saint-Henri—Sainte-Anne, a Montreal riding it narrowly lost to the Quebec Liberal Party by 39 votes.
On election night, Liberal candidate Benoit Clermont secured victory with 13,340 votes, defeating incumbent QS MNA Guillaume Cliche-Rivard, who received 13,301 votes, with a mere 0.11% difference in total votes.
Expressing disappointment over the loss, Québec solidaire co-spokesperson Ruba Ghazal praised Cliche-Rivard’s work in the National Assembly of Quebec and emphasized the importance of ensuring an accurate count for the residents of Saint-Henri—Sainte-Anne.
Cliche-Rivard himself highlighted the narrow margin, stating the need for clarity in election results and indicating a potential request for a judicial recount to uphold democratic integrity.
In a related close contest in Vachon on Montreal’s South Shore, only 10 votes separated the Liberal and PQ candidates, showcasing the significance of every vote in the election process.
